Fashion ON Screen: A Hart Of Style

I recently got into the CW show Hart Of Dixie, about a young doctor moving to Alabama. It's a true chic flick show combining both comedy and drama! The show stars Rachel Bilson and Jamie King. Anyway enough on the detail, what really got my attention was the fashion within the programme. Two characters in particular showcase two very individual styles. Zoe Hart, a faithful New Yorker takes on sophistication with an edge and southern belle Lemon Breeland embodies traditional Southern style with a slight modern flair (yes, her name is really Lemon).

Wardrobe Update: My Vintage Collection

used to still am in a vintage phase! I adore the retro boutiques because lets face it, fashion is a constant cycle. One of the many reasons I LOVE ASOS is down to the vintage section of the online shopping experience, a-m-a-z-i-n-g! And this allows me to go crazy and buy all the vintage i want and in the process lose half my day doing nothing. Any way to provide you with an incite into what I'm wearing I thought I would take you through my wardrobe starting with my vintage garments.

The first item is my blazer. Those who know me know I'm a sucker for a blazer! This is partly due to feeling smarter when wearing one. No joke- its a beautiful creation, i mean I could pull off brains in this outfit. But on a more serious note, a blazer is the perfect way to add a little something something to a dull outfit. I usually add this piece of clothing to a simple dress and is a perfect 'in between' for formal or casual occasions. On this particular day I paired my vintage blazer to a simple white dress- perfect for college or a shopping trip. The shoulder pads add a little 80s flair along with the oversized feel- which is 'in' on the runways!

So there you have it... my blazer/vintage fetish!

Stay tuned for more

Style Icons: Alexander McQueen

British-born designer Alexander McQueen is a name known universally. His fashion is not only influential but striking and it was a devastating shock when he died in 2010. McQueen a master tailor along with his ability to juxtapose strength & fragility in his collections made him a force to be reckoned with!

Highland Rape Collection
In 1996 the designer worked as cheif designer at Givenchy till 2001, with his own label 'Alexander McQueen'- which still stands strong today. The relationship with founder Hubert De Givenchy was strained due to McQueen dismissing the founder of the label as 'irrelevant'. However, the designers line was later taken over by Gucci which allowed greater creative license. McQueen's runway shows where deemed controversial due to the shock factors, an example was the 1996 'Highland Rape' show where models appeared in torn clothes.

McQueen's boutiques opened around the world, including New York, London and Milan and many A-listers wore his designers including Nicole Kidman, Sarah Jessica Parker and most recently Lady Gaga.

Key achievements of the designer include being the youngest to have the title of the youngest British designer of the year- which he won 4 times. In addition Alexanader McQueen also obtained the title of  International designer of the year in 2003.

Following the death of McQueen, Gucci (the company owner) stated the line would continue as McQueen's long-term assistant Sara Burton took up the role of creative director. McQueen is and forever will be remembered for his great achievements in the fashion industry.

Inspire Me: Rita Ora

Rita Ora is a British singer-songwritter who in 2009 signed to Roc Nation. The singer first made waves with single 'Hot Right Now'. However, her sassy urban style caught my attention and made me want to see more.

The rules for Rita's style put simply are: be edgy and combine unusual collaborations of prints, colours and textures. However, be careful of going over board...keep it looking effortless! The singer described her music and style as being 'both very free... and very eclectic'. The platinum blonde diva (who apparently recently chopped off her locks) is a breath of fresh air to highstreet style and even know her style is a little 'cray' at times, its interesting and fashion forward. Ora's recent aesthetic has been a mix of sportswear and streetwear, channelling Gwen Stefani in 'Hollaback Girl'. This fresh new look is a great inspiration for future outfits, so don't be afraid of the high tops and the trackies.... just MAKE IT WORK!

Wardrobe Update: The Little Black Dress

The little black dress (LBD) became a wardrobe essential during the 1920s thanks to Coco Chanel. It  seems everyone who is anyone in the fashion business claims every girl has or should have their own black dress. But does every girl have one? To answer this question I dived into my wardrobe and found my own. My dress is a 3/4 sleeved 60s inspired design from Dorothy Perkins (Shown on the left). I believe that the black dress is a style ANYONE can pull off, one it's a slimming colour, two it can be tailored to your own individual style. One thing is for sure it is a classic style which went from a mourning to a-whatever-the-occasion dress over night, proving it's one staple style that's here to stay!

Raining On My Fashion Parade

So since I live in England I have the luxury of experiencing unpredictable weather... and today it seems to be raining BADLY. So what to do when you have nothing better to do? Well why not a bit of internet shopping OR watch the Real Housewives of New York- which is strangley addictive. Well too bad for me the Real Housewives wasn't showing so I turned to the internet! Anyway for a couple of years now I've been glued to ASOS.com (amazing site for a wide selection of fashionable clothes) and looked up some coats, which is rather fitting considering I need one in this weather. ASOS never lets me down as I have found my new coat, a denim bomber jacket! However, the price means I WILL have to save up- spent all my money on my last rainny day :L So safe to say I added this to my ever-growing wishlist.

What do you think?

Is it a keeper?

When Rosie Met ELLE

I just finished reading the latest ELLE UK magazine which showcased the British beauty Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. ELLE is one of my favorite mags on the shelves at the moment due to its dedication to fashion, beauty and entertainment and a reasonable price (£3.90). It is perfect for catching the latest trends and inspiring your own fashion flair.

Back to Rosie, well on top of being a Victoria Secret Angel and actress she recently added designer to her resume. However, the interest in the article was her rise to fame. Proving that no path to success is easy, the model talks about her struggle with being the 'right size' or the 'coat hanger size'. However, Roise has a healthy attitude to the constant weight debate in the modelling industry stating she will not change! Nevertheless, the ridicule models face on a daily basis will probably never change. But the women in the middle can't really win, on one side you have designers telling models to drop a few pounds and then theres people telling them to put on weight....there's no wining.

At the risk of getting to deep and pulling a Madonna rant on you guys... I will just say go out and buy ELLE UK this month it's a cracker PLUS you get free eyeliner ;) WIN!

Till next time

Film & Fashion

Film is a huge influence on fashion ever since it was invented in 1925 (for all you history buffs). I have to say my favorite fashion-inspired film is the classic Breakfast at Tiffany's. For all you crazy readers who have not yet seen it, you must. Audrey Hepburn is showered head to toe in Givenchy and as a consequence cements herself as a timeless style icon in cinema. Film has undoubtably become fashion's largest selling point, allowing designers to showcase their garments to large audiences.  A modern example of a fashion orientated show in television is the ever so popular American drama Gossip Girl. When sweeping onto American television screens in 2007, clothing used within the show became sold out in stores across the county.

So if you ever need to be inspired when picking out an outfit.... simply turn on the TV

Be Inspired Guys
